Now that Colorado has legalized Pot (aka Marijuana), I predict Colorado will be swimming in useless, wasted pot users.
How long...do you suppose it will take before the first fatal airplane accident occurs that is attributed to poor maintenance due to the mechanic being 'high' at work?

I'm sure there are others who will share your misconception here. I'm surprised that with a law enforcement background, though, you dont have a diferent view. Most LEOs I know are all about legalization. They dont have problems (at work) with people who use marijuana. There arent people smoking too much weed and driving their cars 90mph into oncoming traffic. Nobody is getting too high on pot and beating their wives or children.
As far as your concern for a mechanic under the influence (or any professional, for that er), you should be every bit, if not moreso, concerned about a boozer or a dope fiend swinging the wrenches under your hood.
Nothing is going to change about Colorado aside from its tax base.

I see the legalization of pot just like the legalization of prostitution in Brazil. Does legalizing prostitution end human slave trade? No. Did it make child prostitution worse? Yes. Will the legalization of pot eliminate organized crime surrounding marijuana? No. The only thing it will accomplish is that we will be "legally" funding the organizations that do us harm. Besides, the effects of drugs are much stronger than just drinking alcohol.

As an LEO Haas, I'm shocked you found LEOs that 'don't have a problem with it'. At 'work'?...Co-workers, or Cops who see it on the street? I have to wonder what their personal background experience is. Weed is okay provided it's not abused, but how do you control that? I get the painkilling aspect for 'medicimal' use, but as a kid growing up (yeah I smoked it a few times, and yes my 'employer' knew it), I've seen several good friend's lives crash and burn due to moving from weed to stronger drugs. It always starts somewhere, and legalizing it just short cuts the likely hood of those who wouldn't even try it to begin with, into potential lives wasted. Nothing like a 'legal' short cut to self destruction.

Just an FYI, I lost my virginity on it, and I may as well have taken a box of Viagra...just saying.

it's better to prohibit it because I am looking at how that will effect a crime industry. Now the drug cartels in mexico and colombia will have more money because americans now decided to change their minds and "legally" pay for the drug. Just because it is legal here it doesn't mean the crime industry will just disappear, which was the main reason people started talking about legalizing it in the first place. I bet some people will say that it will collapse the illegal marijuana industry because now it is "regulated". Biggest BS I have ever heard from some people in the newspapers. Now the demand for the drug will increase in the state of colorado, demand will be obviously above the supply... and of course the drug cartels will be happy to produce more and send it here like they have been doing for decades.. the difference is that it is legal to sell it in Colorado. So now, americans will be legally funding the organizations that kill thousands of people across the border.It is turning the blind eye to violence in exchange for a vice. Again, same example with countries that allow prostitution. Those countries are filled with slave trafficking and are controlled by very powerful criminal organizations...

and plus, people here don't seem to comprehend the level of violence that has increased in latin america during the recent years. Of course, these governments are very irresponsible, but I am always puzzled at why people think legalizing marijuana will destroy this crime industry.... people consume more of it and then legalize the stuff and then wonder why Mexico is worse than before.

I disagree, Otto. The "problem" that will arise is people growing it themselves instead of buying the taxed product.
I can assure you that anyone who regularly uses marijuana has no use for the crap the cartels have a hand in. That would be like buying bathtub gin when you could be drinking something good.

the problem is that the majority of people who were buying it before the legalization were buying it illegally. It is no secret the majority of it came from Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela and Bolivia.



While these countries are responsible for their own actions, adding more money to it will just fuel the problem. People will be able to produce it in Colorado in very small quantities. The rest of it will be obviously supplied by the cartels.

Dude- are you talking about weed or cocaine? Theres a really really big difference...
The majority of the marijuana in the US is locally produced. Im not saying the cartels of Mexico dont have a hand in some of it, but you need to do some fact checking.
