but again, even though he can, it doesn't mean he did it in seconds or in 7*24 hours. Geologists, astronomers and physicists would just say that the Bible is lying if we don't accept a reasonable explanation. I do not believe blindly in the Bible. I have found reasons to believe in it. How is the Cosmic Background fake?

besides, the earth can be old and that does not mean that evolution is true. God created humans after taking billions of years of making the universe.

Creationism isn't a scientific theory, it's a religious claim. The Bible isn't evidence...for anything really. There are so many inconsistencies and loop holes in it that it's entirely laughable that it could be from divine inspiration...let alone the direct divine word of the ultimate deity...who for whatever decides to express himself to a bunch of goat [m'kay], ass backwards Jews first. And oddly, the book centers around a remote, desolate region called Israel and in general doesn't even make passing references to areas outside of Mesopotamia and northern Egypt. Then of course you have the entire laughable attempts of separate authors across decades, if not centuries attempting to retroactively prove that Jesus was the Messiah...and still gloriously [m'kay] it up.

But of course God probably put all these obstacles in to tempt even mildly intelligent and educated people to refute a religion where an all mighty deity NEEDS to be worshiped. And fossils, those tricky things being planted by the devil to tempt us all!

it's also pretty strange to believe the big bang was caused by nothing. It's undeniable that it existed, but very awkward to believe an explosion just happened out of nowhere to create a universe. Someone or something had to cause it. Evolution has basically become dogma. And how about some questions... So we live, and then die like animals only to be eaten by worms? Then what is the point of living? Only having sex? If we were just animals, why do we care if someone robs and kills a family member or if someone we care about dies in an accident? Or why are there so many religions out there where people get possessed and can actually predict the future? I could only find those answers in the Bible.

Ok people, face it. The Bible is a book of MORAL TEACHINGS!!!!! People just ended up interpreting it as fact and creating a religion that pretty much set the human race back a few hundred years (the Dark Ages).

That argument is foolish, Otto, because if you require an origin event for the big bang then you need one for God. Of the two, the big bang is much simpler and thus more likely. And the reason you found the answers in the Bible is that you're a part of a culture that is traditionally Christian. Statistically speaking if you had been born in India you'd have found your answers from Vishnu. If I had to guess your family emigrated to a north American country from Iberia, just based on a few conversations we've had. As for the purpose in life, we are genetically wired with a will to survive and in general have chemical processes that promote "belonging" and in general leads to an impulse to improve yourself, your family, or whatever group you belong to. When you die it's just like the millennia you were already dead before your death. Lights out, that's it. And burialseems silly and inefficient to me. Organ harvesting and cremation please.

And it's unfair to blame the dark ages on the Christians. It was just part of a cycle in which empires rise and fall..we have to remember the dark ages were really only dark in Europe.

WHY?

CommanderOtto wrote:And how about some questions... So we live, and then die like animals only to be eaten by worms? Then what is the point of living? Only having sex? Sorry Otto but this statement is one I've come across to often from religious types and I have always felt confused or pity for the statement or person suggesting it. The point of life should be obvious to most but as it seems not all. How about living your life to the full, having fun, finding love, finding a special person to love and enjoy your life together. How about doing something worthwhile with your time, helping someone or how about just trying to be the best person you can be. How about treating people fairly, how about learning new things and opening your mind to all around you. How about not worrying to much about how you got here and just try and do the above and have a good time while you are doing it.

I don't always get it right but that's how I live my life. I don't and will never believe in a god, but if there was a God I would shake his or her hand and thank them for making me an Atheist.

you must understand, for some people that is not enough of an answer. Specially if a loved person dies.

A painful truth is more important than a beautiful lie.

Creationism No
Evolution Yes

Would you say these Bibical-events or statements are true?
Adam & Eve existed (First Humans, their creation and subsequent expulsion from Eden) No
Humans and Dinosaurs lived at the same time. No
Noah's Flood Global (Water covered the entire Earth where every land based creature not in the Ark has died) No
Noah's Flood Regional (Flood only occured within the region and not globally, water only covered the area) No
Dinosaurs and humans both lived at the same time in the past. No (this is a repeat question, yes?)
All modern Humans are descendants of Noah and his family No
Earth is about 10,000 - 6,000 years old. No
Earth is about 4.5 billion years old. Yes

Well for me that's one of the many positive parts of being an atheists, the understanding that all life on this planet lives and dies and that's about it. If others choose or cant accept that then I'm afraid that's something they need to resolve for themselves.
