1. Yes I can, I've gotten pretty proficient with it (it isn't my first whip, either).
2. This one was $30.00 on the Atlanta Cutlery site. This is the whip:

It is genuine leather, is pretty stif out of the box but it loosens up. If you are looking for a higher quality of whip, I would recommend this $50.00 whip ( http://atlantacutlery.com/p-2127-advent ... hip-8.aspx ). They are both pretty inexpensive, as far as whips go. I have seen some up to $800.00. Depending on what kind you get, they can be pretty expensive!
Also, there are 2 different kinds of bullwhips: leather (theres some technical name for it) and Australian. The difference is that the 'leather' whips are made from cow hide, and the Australian whips are made from kangaroo hide. Kangaroo hiders more expensive, but it is a better material for whips. It's stronger and lighter than rawhide.
There are also nylon and para-cord whips. Para-cord is very strong: one strand can hold almost 500 lbs of weight.
And I am making a whip out of chainmail.
