So all-in-all it was quite close but thankfully the Union is still together, at least for another generation that is. This is a great opportunity for our UK to make a difference in the world by becoming stronger.

The Union between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is also likely to be changed, i.e. there is a possibility that our age-all constitution will be amended in some way from this point forward.

There will be devolution of more powers from Westminster to the Scottish Parliament etc. and likewise we could see each united country being able to govern their own country yet this still remains the United Kingdom. We would all work and contribute via one common agenda, with one flag but each country to make their own decisions relating to the health services, tax and welfare as a few examples. This in my opinion would give each country their ability to shape it better for the people who live there whilst contributing towards the UK as a whole. Parliamentary sovereignty is commonly regarded as the defining principle of the British Constitution but this will now change.

So these are now going to be interesting times to live in where our unwritten constitution could be amended to make it better for the people and finally update it to reflect age/times we all live in. Other countries have one document because they started from scratch due to regime change and/or revolution (US) whereas our constitution is not one formal document; this is simply because there was never a need to do it. Our statutes, conventions, judicial decisions and treaties collectively make-up the British Constitution however it is now looking that great changes are ahead to alter this for the UK. It only takes a catalyst of this magnitude (the breaking of the Union) to shape what could be a new United Kingdom.

The other factor for England is that powers from our Parliament will be cascaded out at a regional level so each county would have greater autonomy to govern their own region in terms of how to allocate funding towards education, police and health services etc. whilst other powers would remain central.

I am also hoping that once the momentum has been gathered it will (over the years) focus our attention towards the power and laws that Europe is trying to gain. We need to reverse this by bringing more powers back into the UK rather than allowing the tyrannical eurocrat's to take what they failed to achieve through war to do so by implementing more EU laws into the UK. We have all seen how the EU super state makes a complete mess of their respective economies whilst allowing vast amounts of immigrants to flow unchecked (Schengen Agreement) across their borders. Immigration can be a benefit if controlled but unchecked it causes issues which you guys in the US know a lot about. Having centralised powers flowing out Brussels has proved over the years how damaging it is, one ultimate ruling body has caused problems throughout history, it's not really something the UK should be absorbed into. I personally want the UK to unify and be able to prosper again and hopefully this new UK will be able to do it right this time around.
