That's because you have a computer from the 20th century. Try upgrading to hell, I dunno, a Geforce 6100? I mean good god, Steam isn't exactly a resource hog. Unless of course you did something [m'kay] retarded at some point, got a virus, and decided to blame it on Steam instead.

Turn the Steam application off when you play BF2.

Don't blaim steam on lag.
If your computer can't handle games like TF2, don't download them.
I have over 220 hours on TF2 and i have less lag then SWBF2.
Also close steam when playing a non-steam based game.
