favorite 20th century bands

Duke Ellington, Glen Miller, Al Hirt, the Blue Devils, Texas Aggie Drum Corps, Maynard Ferguson, and Doc Severinson. :)

For the uninitiated, the topic was favorite bands of the 20th century. Therefore:

Duke Ellington had one of the snazziest big jazz bands of the early twentieth century. He played and wrote music for over 50 years, and actually wrote over 1000 songs.

Glen Miller created his orchestral band in the 1930's, and is still going strong today. While he is now deceased, his band is one of the most requested performing bands of "swing era" music today.

Al Hirt was a famous trumpeter from New Orleans, who made jazz and blues trumpet a tv phenomenon in the 1960's.

The Blue Devils are one of the most famous and consistently performing drum and bugle corps in the country. Highly skilled musicians from around the country chosen from high school and college bands.

Maynard Ferguson was a big jazz band leader and my favorite trumpeter. He could make a trumpet sing high notes like no one else.

The Texas Aggie Drum Corps IS the most awesome military style marching band in the U.S. end of story.

Doc Severinson is another big band jazz trumpeter most widely known as the leader of the Tonight Show Band for many years. He still plays and tours today.

And yes, actually...I played trumpet for 13 years before handing it over to my daughter. :) Is it that obvious?
