In more words, deregulated financial markets in which it was common to both bet against your own clients and to bet twice on the same prospect. Not to mention rampant sub-prime lending. Granted that was a baby crisis compared to the one that will hit in the next few decades from student loans. The Chinese Dragon is merely taking its usual place on top the world. It is only natural. And actually a rising Chinese economy is pretty much implicitly tied to a rising global economy, since it has about 1/7th of the world's population. It is the world's largest market, and if that market has access to capital then it become an immense boon to every country on earth.

I would say there is no "the economy" anymore.
Right now the top 10% or so of the country are doing great. Corporate profits are at all time highs, taxes at 60 year lows, it's never been easier to make money without doing any actual work or producing anything.

I think people who actually work for a living are struggling primarily due to the worldwide race to the bottom we've allowed business to put us in, and the financialization of the US and European economies.

Why is growth sluggish and unemployment higher than usual? The worldwide financial collapse, housing market just starting to recover, high household debt, and weak demand.

The problem I have with Corporate Greed is the lack of common sense of some companies. The type that hoard their products instead of offering a sample to a consumer who may drum up more customers.

I am in the process of putting together a website to review different feminine products. Mostly cloth, reusable, washable products. I email companies asking for samples to test, and I test them. I am doing the same with Cloth diapers for my son. The phenomenon of reusable products for women is really taking off right now and many manufacturers that make cloth diapers are starting to come out with lady products.
