I agree that things like drunk driving are an issue, however this is a gun control thread, not a full death control, or alcohol control thread and by that i mean that this should be related to guns.
And i agree, guns were intended to kill people with, knives were invented to cook with and later on applied as weapons, people can live without guns, i doubt cooks could live without knives.

Cooks invented the knife? What were they cooking? Meat? How did they get the meat? By going out into the woods, swamps, meadows, and tundras, hunting game and killing it with knife and spear. Not sure where you got your info from Val, but you got it ass-backwards. Knives were invented for killing. Now they are considered tools?

As far as death control verses gun control, sometimes one has to step back and look at the bigger picture. Guns are just one aspect of society.

As far as know hunting would be done anciently with spears, due to longer range and even being able to be tossed, unless using traps.
What I'm trying to say is knives are used as a tool, guns from what I've seen are used as a weapon or a hobby(aka hunting), knives are needed, guns are not.
Guns are an aspect of the USA society, and only that society, a constitutional right that costs lives every year.

Guns are just as much of a tool as a knife is to a butcher and chef or a hammer is to a carpenter. I use my guns to hunt animals that my family eats for food. I use knives to help process my own meat to save money. Even these so called "assault rifles" are tools that can and are used for hunting purposes. I used one recently to hunt coyotes which desecrate the deer population where I hunt. I know there are other forms of food, but venison is healthier for you than beef so my family eats quite a fair amount of it each year (roughly 9 deer per year).

I do think that violence is a major issue, but guns shouldn't be blamed. I could do more damage with some easily made explosives and a couple pipes than what most people could do with 100 rounds of ammo spraying from a semi auto "assault rifle" (which in most cases only fires 1 round with every pull of the trigger).

I carry a handgun when I go for runs because coyotes are a potential threat. Also, all the extra homicides and violence that everyone has talked about in this thread scare me. :innocent:

I have never had deer before... but it sounds (and looks) tasty. I'm so hungry now, and it's all your fault!

Seems you verified my argument, you hunt animals for sport as far as I'm getting here.
The difference being still that guns are unnecessary, as far as i know cooking utilities are.
Anywhere outside the USA people have been managing without firearms, the whole "we need them to protect ourselfs" argument seems to be fairly invalid, considering the homicide/population ratio compared to other first world countries.

The USA has those numbers of homicides, you could say don't blaim the guns, but what does it solve?
I agree you could do more damage that way, though it's from what i see not fully planned attacks, more near impulses.

Anyhow this concerns me little, I'm not in the USA and not faced with said problems

Quite honestly, I'm tired of pussy azz Europeans telling us Americans how to live. Don't like it? Tough! Don't come here. Don't need/want you here anyway. So there!!!! :gun_bandana: :gunsmilie: :whistling:  Quite honestly, anyone here preaching against anyone having guns or just violence itself is a f'n hypocrite since you endorse violence by constantly playing games that are violent in nature. And no, I AM NOT suggesting that violent video games leads people to be violent. :action-smiley-043:

This is a thread about gun control, I wasn't aware the title was "gun control in america". Therefore, an international point of view is equally valid.

Um where else are we talking about control? Man Otto you really are a dumbass. Seriously, I've seen piles of poop smarter than you. Besides, if you couldn't tell by the smilies in my post. You might of seen my sense of humor being portrayed. BTW, I would never let you eat any venison until you grew some nads. So don't even think about!!!! Grow some, shoot a gun and actually hit a target and then maybe I'll consider it. :oldman: :1402:

If you shoot a deer, you have to gut it yourself before you can have any. Thems the rules. :gunsmilie:
