It's Fox News. They literally had to go to court to basically defend their right to lie to people and continue to call their channel Fox "News." Don't trust anything they say.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21482252

"The US space agency Nasa said the meteor weighed 10,000 tonnes before entering the atmosphere, and released about 500 kilotons of energy. The atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 was 12-15 kilotons."

However, most of this energy was released in the upper atmosphere, and over a much longer period of time than a nuclear device. Thus, less damage on the ground.

That's why I love BBC

EDIT: but wait, just before that line the bbc news report also says this:

It weighed about 10 tonnes when it entered the Earth's atmosphere and broke apart 30-50km (20-30 miles) above ground, according to Russia's Academy of Sciences, releasing several kilotons of energy - the equivalent of a small atomic weapon.

fox news clearly got the info from the russians. I prefer nasa's response :ugeek:

If these people had firearms they would have been able to protect themselves.

In all seriousness I hope the best for the victims and their families.
