yanoda, that was very long... let me highlight the most important thing you said (book summary lol)

Yanoda wrote:
The way vaccines work is by using inactive or killed, viruses or bacteria to stimulate the immune system in thinking it has been infected. This allows the immune system to build up defenses against the disease without the harmful effects to prepare for the real deal. Getting slightly sick from a flu vaccine (or any vaccine for that matter) is expected since the body is reacting to the invader. http://www.ehow.com/how-does_4603135_flu-shot-work.html
Furthermore, the flu virus evolves very quickly - so researchers have to make the best available guess which strain will become dominant in the season to then develop the vaccines. Hence why we have instance of the vaccines not working - the virus just evolved differently than expected. A bit of research instead of just going by 'common sense' (which can be detrimental in some cases concerning these issues) can clarify many things and avoid complications as best as possible.

that's right... vaccines are not the real thing. They are dead bacteria, so you are not making anyone sick on purpose really. When you "feel" sick after the vaccine, that is just a response from the body.

I don't believe vaccines are 'dead' viruses, but a 'sampling' of the virus that your body's immune system can handle and fight on a fair level, so that it can 'remember just how' to destroy a particular virus should it encounter it on an even greater infectious level in the future. If a virus is dead, what is there to fight?

I am not a biologist, but what I remember is that the antibodies will look at the pieces and outer skin of viruses and bacteria, attack it (because it is an entity the body does not recognize) and then it will use the information to produce more antibodies designed to "attach" itself to the skin and pieces of that particular type of agent. When the real thing comes, it does not matter if it is alive or dead, the body recognizes it just the same. True, there are certain vaccines that have live viruses, but they are genetically designed to remove the reproductive parts of the virus.

This is pretty off topic, but i'd just like to say that i'm genuinely impressed that the matt joke has gone on as long as it has. How long has it been now, like four years or something? How many of us even see the image now without immediately substituting "matt"? This is the most long lasting one-off joke i've ever seen.

I guess the only opinion that matters is the dude that 'owns' this website. Apparently, he rather enjoys it still.

Does dragon ever reply in a meaningful way or does he solely reply via emoticons.

Also, nite, that was a bit of an overblown reaction given Sammy didn't really seem to mean anything offensive. He had a somewhat valid point in that many people still don't trust scientific work when it has so greatly improved life.
[04:25] -SR-Mandalore: who pitches and who catches
[04:29] (SWGO)SWINE*FLU: We'll do it in turns.
[04:30] -SR-Mandalore: That sounds super fair
[04:30] -SR-Mandalore: Do you think other gay couples do that?
[04:30] (SWGO)SWINE*FLU: I reckon so.

Mandalore, please, if you have a moment, hit me up on x-fire..

I apologize if I find it rude/ridiculous/insulting for someone who isn't a parent to make a remark that insults the intelligence of us that are parents. When you are not a parent you don't know the choices we face and the decisions we have to make. They are tough, brutal, and can be the difference between life, death, or disability. Basically Samonuh thinks that the only people that know anything about the safety/efficacy of vaccines are their developers and producers.. And that parents are just idiots for questioning them and don't know a lick of what they are talking about.

The right to choose what vaccines (if any) to give your children is a hot button topic amongst parents who live a crunchier lifestyle. It is one that will get a lot of mothers fired up. Same goes for circumcision, the right to breastfeed in public, and appropriate attachment parenting techniques. You have to expect this when it comes to certain topics.

And I don't have time to completely reply to ALL of your points, Yanoda, but there is NO REASON to vaccinate a newborn baby for a sexually transmitted disease.. and Hep B is the sexually transmitted strain of the hepatitis virus. Its given in the hospital soon after birth, along with a vitamin k shot. And the reason they give vitamin k shots is to combat bleeding in circumcised boys and they do it for boys and girls as a way of covering up the risks of circumcision. And those "preservatives" (aluminum, thimerosal, and formaldehyde, aren't as safe as you think.) And have you actually read the Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears or are you going off information being passed around on the internet? Dr. Sears book outlines the history of vaccines, how they're made, ingredients, and what forms they're available in. His book isn't just his opinion on what he recommends, but I'd trust him more than a lot of other doctors who simply want to practice "herd immunity".

I believe that some illness are too risky to NOT vaccinate against, but the problem today is with MODERN vaccines (in the last 15 years) is they have came up with super-combos. My middle and my youngest brother were given two different regimes in vaccines and they are only 3 years apart. The older of the two was given (what has been found out to be safer) single dose vaccines and the younger was given some of the super-combos.

Vaccines USED TO BE about protecting the masses and eradication of deadly illnesses. However now the companies that make them have turn them into money making machines. They still have to make the single dose vaccines, but they cost more.. And insurance companies can choose what they pay for..
